Culture and history infoPushkar is derived from Sanskrit word which means blue lotus flower. Pushkar is a small town which lies in Ajmer district of the Indian state of Rajasthan. This small town is known for its temples, majority of which were destroyed during the attacks in the medieval history and were reconstructed. Pushkar is one of the famous places for Hindu community. This temple is dedicated to the god of creation Lord Brahma.
This is believed to be the only Bramha Temple in the whole wide world. It is the center of devotion for the Hinduism. Pushkar lake which is believed to be created by the tears of Lord Shiva is one of the famous tourist destination for Hindu tourists. Each year large number of people flock this place to take dip into the holy waters of this Lake. The Pushkar Fair is also held every year.
It is an annual five-day camel and livestock fair held by the locals in and around the town of Pushkar. People are helpful, cheerful and have belief in their culture. Pushkar is famous for the productions of items like local fabrics, handicrafts. Gujjar folk dance is again a highlight of their cultural heritage.
