Kanatal is a very sought-after tourist hot spot in uttarakhand about 40 Kms. Away from famous tourist destination of Mussorie on Mussorie –Chamba Highway. It is a sleepy suburb surrounded by the hills and lies in the coveted Tehri district of Uttarakhand. The destination is of high mythological importance for Hindus as it home to various temples. This tiny little town is visited in high numbers by Adventure Campers, devotees and foreign and domestic tourists alike. It has a pleasant and refreshing weather throughout the year with mild winters. Roads sometimes get blocked in winters due to snowfall. It houses some rare species and has sprawling Flora and Fauna. Culture and history infoKanatal is named after a nonexistent lake by the same name. People believe that there used to be a lake kanatal few years ago, which is now no more. Kanatal is famously known for its Surkunda devi temple which is dedicated to Sati. It is believed that it’s this place where Shiva brought the dead body of Sati on his trishul from the holy city of Haridwar.
This holy temple is located on the top of the hill from where you get the 360 degree picturesque view of the surrounding area. There are few adventure camps in and around the area which is famous amongst the tourists. These camps provide the local taste and serene environment of the Himalayan region to the arriving tourists. Various adventure activities are also being carried out in these camps such as Rappelling, Trekking, Valley Crossing and Rock Climbing. With varied flora and fauna one can indulge into the enchanting hues of this place all day long.
