Saat-tal is a sleepy Hamlet in the outskirts of the famous town and hotspot of Nainital. It derives its name from the seven lakes which it overlooks atop a hill. It is surrounded by Oak and Pine forests and is a paradise for migratory birds which visit its un-tampered Freshwater biomes. Of late it receives heavy tourism owing to its natural resources and the pristine Himalayan environment. It has more than 500 species of Birds recorded and innumerable species which have carved out their own niche in the region. Culture and history info

Nainital derived its name from Naini Lake around which this small Himalayan town is built. Naini Lake is believed to be one of the 64 ‘Shakti Peeths’ where Nain (eyes) of burnt body of Sati (Parvati) felt. Naina Devi Temple is located on the north side of the lake.

This Himalayan town was founded by the British in the 19th century when a British trader built his first house in the region. It lies on the foothills of Kumaon region of the Greater Himalayas. It is surrounded by various peaks on all the sides such as Naina, Deopatha, and Aryapatha.

Apart from its religious and tourist importance it is also known for the Day Boarding schools in the region. Sherwood College, Birla Vidya Mandir, St. Mary’s Convent and St. Joseph College are some of the many famous educational institutes in the region. Many famous personalities such as Jim Corbett, Ruskin Bond, Amitabh Bachchan, Somnath Sharma have their roots connected to this beautiful Himalayan town of Uttarakhand.
