Shimla the capital city of Himachal Pradesh caters to a large sector of the tourism industry in India making it the perfect getaway. It lays in the south-western ranges of the Himalayas with predominantly cold weather in the winters and the summer months being semi warm.
This enchanting city is popular for a number of pre-independence structures such as the Viceregal Lodge, the Gaiety Theatre, and Auckland House and of course the Kalka-Shimla railway line that joined the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites in 2008. The camp is located on one of the seven-hill town’s right on the outskirts of Shimla, namely Summer Hill which is at a distance of 5km west from the massively frequented Shimla Ridge.
This hill is home to the coveted Himachal Pradesh University and also where, the railway line passes through making it convenient for visitors to use this mode of transportation to get to Potter’s Hill Camp. Stay close to nature’s heart by admiring the splendor of the beautiful pine and deodar trees that grow in plenty on the Summer Hill and in the camp forests. The campsite known for its breathtaking flora and fauna as well as its entertaining activities, make it a place worthwhile to spend your weekend at.

After the partition, it became the capital of Punjab and later became the capital of Himachal Pradesh which was carved out of Punjab. Shimla was named after a Hindu Goddess Shayamala Devi, believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Kali.
The Mall road and the Ridge are the heart of the city, as these are the favorite spots to hangout for the locals as well as tourists. Lakkar Market in the vicinity of Ridge is famous for selling local wooden handicrafts and souvenirs. A three to four days Shimla Summer Festival is also held every year on the ridge, where you can see the mix of cultures and singers from all over India performing.
There are many places in the vicinity of Shimla where tourists horde. Places such as Mashobra, Kufri, Naldehra, Tatta Pani some of the places which people visit. On the way to Kufri you can also see one of densest forest in Asia. You can also get the view of the Higher Himalayan ranges from Kufri.
