The town got it’s name after a plant forund in the region called Kilmora which was used to wash the utensils of the famous temple of Katarmal.

It rests on the sothern slope of Kumaun hills in the shape of horse shoe saddle. Culture and history infoAlmora lies in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Almora district is home to various temples of various Hindu deities. Some of the noted temples are Baijnath, Garhnath, Jageshwar, Binsar Mahadev, Nanda Devi, Kasar Devi. This place is also home to only the second Sun Temple in the world; first one is in Konark Orissa.
